Jason Rogers currently serves as the Board Member for Advocacy & Awareness Initiatives for the NWA Center for Equality. He is passionate about equality for all individuals of the LGBTQ Community.
Art Beeghly, here and there mainly out west and a while back, picked up around 15 years as a newspaper reporter or editor, once an ad proofreader in Las Vegas. His first blog for the Center or anywhere else told of Mitchell Gold, a guest speaker and author at the Fayetteville Public Library. Getting only self-permission to ask questions, add background details, trade a handshake of a chosen subject and finally to write a proposed headline brings some nostalgic enjoyment. Also from previous newspaper days, he does not miss the long, unscheduled hours, getting laid off or “fard” as happened in Texas. So the media suffers without Art. In Fayetteville for five satisfied years now after moving from native Frisco Bay Area, he enjoys the church of his choice, the public library, time both at home and for world travel. May the Center take advantage of the local tolerant or blase vibe to loudly promote visibility and political, personal acceptance of queers.
Jonathan Carlsmith is a senior at the University of Arkansas majoring in Journalism and Communication. He will begin a masters program in the fall. Jonathan is a regular save-the-world liberal and a native of Fayetteville. His interests include human rights, coffee of any sort, cycling, and book collecting. Jonathan has dedicated his life to social justice through education and the strengthening of individuals, families, and communities.

Jonathan Cox is a recent graduate at the University of Arkansas. He is a past member of the NWA Center for Equality board of directors and recent chair of the Center’s Advocacy committee. View Jonathan’s posts.

GenderQueer Book Club is a group of community members who meet at the Center and they organize themselves on Facebook.
Have you ever thought of yourself as outside the binary gender system enforced by our society? Have you wondered how people could feel that they are a different gender than their sex or be bi-gender? Are you curious about how to promote equality and become an advocate for people who do not fit in this binary system? Join us!
We will be reading 13 works of nonfiction that deal largely with transgender topics, but will also include a look at intersex, butch/femme, and the concept of third gender and twin spirit. We welcome people of all self-descriptions (and none!). We will meet once monthly in person, but folks who cannot attend our physical meetings are encouraged to read along with us and use the discussion threads to talk about the current books on Facebook.
